Are you a veterinarian with a degree from an accredited institution in Sweden or another EU/EEA country or Switzerland, and are eligible to work in Sweden - we welcome your application!
About the job
The University Animal Hospital offers a three-year surgical residency in large animal surgery.
The Equine Department is supported by a team of 4 diplomats (surgery, medicine, equine sports medicine, and rehabilitation). There are also specialists in related disciplines, including anesthesia, dermatology, ophthalmology, imaging diagnostics, reproduction, and pathology. Of the clinic's 5,100 annual cases, approximately 750 cases are handled by the surgical department.
The resident is expected to participate in all aspects of both surgical and medical services, including on-call work, emergency surgery, and intensive care. The resident will work under supervision and gain increased responsibility as experience is gained during training.
Your background
You have a veterinary degree from an accredited institution in Sweden or another EU/EEA country or Switzerland, and are eligible to work in Sweden.
The minimum requirement is completion of a one-year rotating internship or equivalent experience.
Good knowledge of English and/or a Scandinavian language is required.
You meet the requirements to be approved as a resident according to ECVS guidelines (see information brochure on the ECVS website, here (https://www.ecvs.org/ecvs-for/residents.php#ecvs-training-brochure)).
You are responsible, cooperative, and interested in working in an environment where clinical practice meets teaching and research. The ability to build professional relationships and contribute to a friendly, welcoming, and pleasant work environment is highly valued in the workplace. You recognize the importance of maintaining good relationships with colleagues and clients. Personal qualities will be given great importance.
About us
The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for undergraduate education, research, and postgraduate education in anesthesia, imaging diagnostics, animal care, epidemiology, laboratory animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, medicine, and reproduction. Our activities span all animal species.
At SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS), education, research, and advanced veterinary care go hand in hand. We train tomorrow's veterinarians and veterinary nurses and provide first-class care for companion animals, competition animals, and production animals. We also disseminate knowledge to the public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research results, we develop the future of veterinary care.
Under one roof, we offer healthcare for horses, dogs, cats, and other small animals. In addition to modern, purpose-built facilities, we have access to advanced imaging diagnostics and a veterinary medical specialist laboratory. UDS also includes an ambulatory clinic that goes out to stables and farms to examine and treat horses and livestock.
The Equine Department receives approximately 5,100 horses annually. We currently have about 50 employees and are part of the Department of Clinical Sciences, which in turn has about 340 employees. The department currently has three units: an outpatient clinic with orthopedic and medical cases, a farriery unit, and a specialist clinic in respiration, dentistry, dermatology, and ophthalmology. A care unit with both surgical and medical patients. And an operating unit with both planned and emergency surgeries. Our work environment is characterized by commitment, joy, quality, and service. Here you can develop in a dynamic and stimulating environment.
